B/L Chemical Injury managed with AlloSLET

A 32 year old labourer came to us with a history of cement going inside both eyes while working. On examination, patient was extremely symptomatic. There was complete corneal epithelial defect, significant chemosis and lid edema, a few cement particles on his surface. After a thorough wash was given, he was stained and according to E-PIX grading of chemical burns was graded as OU L6C3K2P0I0X1.

Because of the significant chemosis, he was placed on bandage contact lens in both eyes and started on hourly topical steroids.
2 days later, the chemosis settled but the findings were the same with significant inflammation.
Patient was taken up for both eyes AlloSLET with the aim of re-epithelisation and reducing inflammation.
On table, the lids were everted and areas of cement adhered were removed so as to remove the source of inflammation.
Left eye was found to be more affected than the right and he required a repeat alloSLET in the left eye.

This is the before and after photos of the patient with patient currently doing well and showing good improvement in BCVA.
