Multiple, small discrete lesions of the cornea - Affect epithelial and subepithelial layers

๐‚๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ based on distribution of lesions in the cornea:โฃ โฃ

โ— Generalized - Acute conjunctivitis, Toxic conjunctivitis, Vernal conjunctivitisโฃ โฃ

โ— Central- Adenoviral conjunctivitis, Thygesonโ€™s, CL overwearโฃ โฃ

โ— Upper 1โ„3 - Inclusion Conjunctivitis, Superior limbic Keratoconjunctivitisโฃ โฃ

โ— Lower 1โ„3 - Staphylococcus disease, Exposure keratitis, Entropionโฃ โฃ

โ— Lower 2โ„3- Dry eye, Exposure keratitis, Neurotrophic keratitisโฃ โฃ

โ— Zonular- Herpesโฃ โฃ

โ— Paralimbal- Adjacent to pterygium/ any other conjunctival lesionโฃ โฃ

โ— Linear streak- Tarsal foreign bodyโฃ โฃ

๐“๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ž๐ฌ:โฃ

โ— Superficial punctate epithelial erosions - Slightly depressed spots - visible only after staining with fluoresceinโฃ โฃ

โ— Superficial punctate epithelial keratitis- Greyish white opacities - visible without fluorescein staining, stains poorly with fluorescein and stain well with rose bengalโฃ โฃ

โ— Combined epithelial and subepithelial punctate keratitisโฃ โฃ

Look for associated ocular changes:โฃ

1. Conjunctival changesโฃ

2. Eyelid lesionsโฃ

3. Limbal changesโฃ

4. Abnormal tear functionโฃ
