Etiology of Pseudophakic Bullous Keratopathy

  • Development of irreversible corneal edema after cataract surgery and IOL implantation.

  • Initially, there is endothelial trauma followed by progressive stromal and epithelial edema.

  • The epithelial edema results in the formation of bullae, hence the name bullous keratopathy.
