Epicapsular Stars

  • They are remnants of the tunica vasculosa lentis, which carries the basic blood supply to the lens during embryogenesis


  • It is a variety of Type 2 Persistent pupillary membrane (iridolenticular adhesions)

  • Presents as multiple, star-shaped, brown-colored opacities over the anterior lens capsule, also known as the chicken tracks

  • Usually non-vision threatening and do not warrant surgical intervention
